They say there is no love greater than that of a sister. Today we have Dr. Toledo and he brought two of his patients with us to show us a great example of that love. Dr. Toledo welcome back to GMT.
Dr. Toledo:
Thanks Amy.
Amy Vanderoef:
Talk about these two remarkable sisters sitting next to you.
Dr. Toledo:
Well Demetra is on the far left and this is Tina. They're both patients of mine and Demetra's a very old friend of mine, and a former patient. The story today is really about the love for your sister. Not just what surgery, she had done, but Demetra was scheduled to have a little eye tuck and a little neck tuck and she was scheduled, and paid, and was ready to go to surgery and all of a sudden she saw her sister, saw her abdomen after her pregnancy, and said cancel everything. It's her birthday. You can see her before picture during pregnancy. So she gave her face lift away and gave it to her sister, which is pretty remarkable.
Amy Vanderoef:
Wow, okay so pregnancy an amazing, beautiful time, but could be a little bit of a disfiguring event at times Tina. So let's talk about, while we're looking at your before and after pictures, what you were experience.
Tina:
Well as you can see, when I was pregnant, I got really large and I had the effects of that afterwards with loose skin, hanging stomach.
Amy Vanderoef:
Sure.
Tina:
Trying to hide it. I tried to hide it from her, from everyone, for years and I lived in another State, we moved here, and she saw my stomach.
Amy Vanderoef:
And Demetra came in, your sister, and said I really want to gift this for you so that you can feel self confident about your body again.
Tina:
Yes.
Amy Vanderoef:
Do you see this a lot Dr. Toledo? This is so beautiful.
Dr. Toledo:
Well sometimes. This is kind of rare. It's wonderful.
Amy Vanderoef:
Yeah. I want to look at the pictures and I want you to talk about what you did and what this procedure that Tina had was.
Dr. Toledo:
Well it's kind of a routine tummy tuck, but she also had a big hernia. The muscles were all torn. The baby was quite large and she's kind of a small little girl and so big baby, small bones and it tears the muscles so you can see on the before and after a typical tummy tuck. The skin's hanging over, of course now it's flat and it's flat even in the sitting position, so it's nice.
Amy Vanderoef:
Tina did you ever think you could achieve these results after having such a very big baby?
Tina:
No. I was amazed. I'm still amazed. This was on my birthday in October. The greatest gift I think I've ever received and I still look in the mirror and go, "I cannot believe this." It's just unreal.
Amy Vanderoef:
So I guess this is exactly the results that you wanted to achieve for Tina Demetra?
Demetra:
Oh yeah. She was always such a beautiful girl and like she said, she lived out of State and you know the old saying, seeing is believing, and I had heard her say that she had problems after she had the baby and everything, but when I saw it, I said this is vanity. I'm going to take of my sister.
Amy Vanderoef:
This is beautiful Dr. Toledo and I think a lot of people are motivated by this and as we look at further pictures, if someone wants to have this done, what's the downtime they should consider?
Dr. Toledo:
Usually it's a week at home and then maybe three or four weeks without any exercise. But they can get back to work in a week if they're just the least bit motivated.
Amy Vanderoef:
Okay. I love that even Dr. Toledo is moved by this story. You have tears in your eyes too. I see it.
Dr. Toledo:
No, no, it's pretty great.
Amy Vanderoef:
That's great and it's beautiful that you did this for your sister and I'm so glad that you're feeling great and a healthy baby as well. We love that Tina.
