What's the Difference Between a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and a Facial Plastic Surgeon?
When it comes to choosing a plastic surgeon for your cosmetic needs, it can get a bit confusing with all the different titles and certifications out there. Two common terms you might come across are "Board Certified Plastic Surgeon" and "Facial Plastic Surgeon." So, what's the difference?
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon: A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon has completed extensive training in both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. They are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and can perform a wide range of surgeries on various parts of the body, not just limited to the face. Surgeons must meet very difficult 6 year plastic surgery residencies and exhibit mastery in all aspects of plastic surgery. Dr. Toledo completed multiple residences in plastic surgery and head and neck surgery spanning many years to perfect his surgical skills. His training and experience make him an expert.
Facial Plastic Surgeon: On the other hand, a Facial Plastic Surgeons are typically trained as ENT doctors. They have not been board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. They typically receive much less training and can not call themselves plastic surgeons. They can not perform more difficult reconstructions, body and breast procedures and have limited training in procedures of the face.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons encourages patients to only see board-certified plastic surgeons. Dr. George A. Toledo is a board certified plastic surgeon with over 35 years of experience. We all know EXPERIENCE MATTERS. He is an expert on all facial, nose and body procedures.
Always do your research, ask questions, and ensure your surgeon is experienced and qualified in the procedure you are considering. Your safety and satisfaction should always be the top priority when undergoing any type of cosmetic surgery.
